GB CUP SELECTION

As in recent years, in 2026 we will be entering the GB Cup, a national competition organised by the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain.
Please bring along up to 6 images in each of Nature and Open categories, titled and sized to 1600 x 1200 pixels; and we will select the best 24 in each category to be submitted in the competition!

Andy Sands: The Past Year

An ever-popular visitor to TDPS, Andy Sands returns with a presentation showcasing photos he has taken in the past year. He will also be critiquing members’ photos of fungi!

Sarah Howard: My photographic journey

Sarah Howard is a professional UK landscape photographer based in the Cotswolds. A passionate traveller and lover of the natural world, she is known for her authentic and faithful style of photography.

Shot on one lens challenge

Zoom lenses dominate most people’s camera bags. For this challenge we want you to go ‘old school’: dig out a prime lens from the back of the cupboard and go and take a series of photos using just that one lens.

This evening bring along the photos you have taken and we will review them. If you don’t have a prime lens then it’s OK to use a zoom, but keep it set to just one focal length.

Central Club Challenge competition

We have been invited by Milton Keynes City Photographic Society to participate in this inter-club competition which involves 9 local clubs. The competition is hosted by MKCPS at their usual meeting place in Stantonbury, Milton Keynes. Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start.

Image manipulation challenge

Ahead of this evening’s meeting we will send you a small selection of images in RAW format. Your challenge is to process these in a variety of ways – see how original you can be!

Bring along your resulting images (in jpeg format) and we will compare how different people have processed the files.

Spring has sprung

At this time of year the days are lengthening and nature is responding, with green shoots and spring bulbs in bloom. Your challenge is to capture the change of season in a series of photos.

Bring along your images and we will review them this evening.

Olney Competition selection

This evening we will be selecting photos for our annual competition with Only Camera Club. Bring along no more than six photos on a memory stick.

Murray Livingstone: Distilling the Landscape

This presentation is a reflection on photographer Murray Livingston’s creative process, taking you on a virtual hike in the Highlands of Scotland to unpack how and why he composes photographs in the landscape through the lens of distillation. He engages with the hard question of “why do I make photographs” and delves into the wide ranging creative influences on his black and white photography, namely Japanese philosophy and the self-reflective act of walking in nature.

AGM: Annual General Meeting

This evening we review the past club year and look forward to the next. Come along and have your say; and elect the new committee.

Kingfisher hide day

We have arranged a day out at a hide in Shropshire to photograph kingfishers.

Olney Competition

This evening we have our annual inter-club competition with Olney Camera Club. This year’s event is hosted by Olney. Come along and support TDPS at what is always an enjoyable evening!

Fox hide afternoon

We have arranged an afternoon at a hide in south Buckinghamshire to photograph foxes.

This event is open to members only and there is one place remaining.

Osprey hide afternoon

We have arranged an afternoon in a hide at Rutland Water to photograph ospreys.

This event is open to members only and there is one place remaining.

Royal Ordnance Depot, Weedon

We will meet and explore the photographic opportunities of the old Royal Ordnance site at Weedon, which has now been repurposed and many businesses operate from here.

Ravensthorpe Reservoir

We will meet at the Ravensthorpe Fishing Lodge car park and then explore the edges of the reservoir looking for dragonflies and birds to photograph.

Review of Summer Images

As has become our tradition over recent years, on our first evening back of the new season we will be reviewing members’ favourite images taken over the summer. Please bring along a selection of your images on a memory stick.

Close-up and Macro Photography

This evening we will be honing our skills in macro and close-up photography, with a range of late summer and early autumn subjects to practise on.
