Growing up I loved taking photos with my compact camera. I was inspired by my father, who had a Nikon SLR, and who was always taking photos of our family and rugged Norwegian seascapes.

It wasn’t until I took a year out from university at 23, to travel around the world with a friend, that I bought my first SLR camera in Singapore. It was a Nikon and I remember buying a separate Tamron 100-400mm lens at the same time. Learning to use it was a steep learning curve, but with my travel companion’s help, I soon got to grips with the basics and came home with well over 1200 slides, which all had to be hand mounted!

After returning from my travels I finished uni and moved to England, where photography took a back seat for a few years. Then after my second daughter was born I felt inspired to learn some more and embarked on a two year, part-time photography degree.
