I landed a new job and found myself regularly visiting my company’s Croydon outpost. My new colleagues were lovely, but the highlights of my visits were undeniably the town’s flagship independent department store, Allders, and Jessops. Several years out of university, I finally had more income than was consumed by rent, travelcard and food and I treated myself to a Chinon CP7M. I reckoned I had a good eye but concede that it was another 15-20 years before I appreciated that there needed to be anything other than P mode.

Membership of Towcester Camera Club (now TDPS) catalysed my hitherto absent technical learning, and ‘exposure triangle enlightenment’ enabled me to explore the functionality and creative potential of my camera equipment.
