My introduction to photography came from my Grandad through his images of our family and his life in Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia). His 35mm colour slides from the 1950’s and 60’s are amongst my family’s most treasured possessions. My own photography started with an Olympus 35mm camera as an eighteenth birthday present that gave me a love for capturing interesting and beautiful moments, scenery or wildlife for my own recollection and to share with others.

As technology and years have progressed, I now have a variety of cameras to enable me to take images whilst enjoying my passions of travelling, scuba diving, hiking and nature. These range from a Canon digital SLR, a compact Canon with underwater housing and a Panasonic bridge camera.

Underwater photography is a particular interest and can often be a challenge to capture a pleasing image whilst dealing with conditions unique to being in the ocean. These include maintaining a level and still position, encountering visibility issues in the water and ensuring the right lighting conditions and white balance settings are used to overcome the loss of colours (particularly red), depending on the depth you are.
