January 2024
On Friday 12th January four members, Maggie Burgess-Wood, Paul Charles, Steve McGill and myself Kevin Adams left in two vehicles enroute to Mull. Following an overnight stop at Stirling we arrived on Mull on the Saturday via the ferry from Oban. Our main aim for the trip was to photograph otters in their natural environment along with white tailed and golden eagles.
Our base for the week was Corry House a large modern well equipped house half way up a mountain by a hardcore track. On our first full day Paul took us all on a tour of the northern side of Lock Na Keal and surrounding areas which took up most of the day.
On the second day we visited a local hide at Fishnish which is the area we were stopping in and we were treated to a white tailed eagle on the rocks whilst an otter swam past. The next couple of days were spent on the southern side of Loch Na Keal where we located a mother otter with two cubs and as we got to know their habits we were able to get closer and get some terrific photos before the snow fell heavily forcing a return to our base.
